Annie Bloom Florist

Our Sustainability Commitment

At Annie Bloom, we believe in being honest and transparent about how we run our florist shop. Rather than using vague buzzwords, we are committed to sharing the exact, practical steps we take every day to lower our environmental impact and support our local community.

1. Supporting Local Irish Growers:

We love the beauty of seasonal, locally grown flowers. Because of Ireland’s changing climate, our sourcing naturally shifts with the seasons.

  • During the Summer: We actively aim to source as much as possible directly from verified local Irish flower farms, and we proud to say that in the peak season a lot of our creations include 100% Irish grown blooms and foliage.
  • During the Winter: When local supply is limited, we source our blooms from trusted European growers, ensuring a steady supply while supporting responsible international farming practices.
  •

2. 100% Plastic-Free Customer Wrapping

We have completely removed single-use plastics from our customer-facing packaging.

  • All of our daily bouquets, gift arrangements, and presentation bunches are wrapped exclusively in biodegradable, recyclable, or home-compostable paper and twine.
  • We guarantee that your gift will leave our shop completely free of single-use cellophane or synthetic plastic wraps.

3. Our Circular Glass Return Scheme

To help reduce waste and encourage a circular economy, we run an active glassware return program.

  • We encourage our customers to bring back their clean, empty arrangement glass jars or vases.
  • In return, we gladly offer [Insert Discount, e.g., €X off your next flower purchase / a loyalty stamp]to thank you for helping us reuse quality materials and keep waste out of local landfills.

4. Restricted Use of Floral Foam

Traditional green floral foam is a microplastic that does not break down naturally. To combat this, we manage its use strictly:

  • Foam-Free by Default: 100% of our standard retail bouquets, corporate vase arrangements, and home designs are crafted using sustainable, foam-free mechanics.
  • Specialized Exceptions Only: We restrict the use of traditional floral foam exclusively to complex, structural items where no viable technical alternative currently exists. We ensure all spent foam is disposed of safely to protect our local water systems.

5. Efficient Store Operations

We monitor our energy use just as closely as our supply chain. Our retail premises operates on high-efficiency 100% LED lighting across both our front-of-house customer displays and our backroom preparation areas to minimize our electricity consumption.

Our Future Roadmap & Certifications

While we are proud of our day-to-day practices on the shop floor, sustainability is a continuous journey. We are actively working toward verifying our social and environmental performance through official, independent third-party standards:

  • Pursuing Certified B Corporation Status: We are currently utilizing the global B Impact Assessment framework to audit our entire business footprint across our community, worker, and environmental operations. Our goal is to formally join the growing community of verified Certified B Corporations in Ireland.
  • Applying for the Green Hospitality Ireland GREENMark: To independently verify our retail store's efficiency, we are actively auditing our commercial waste streams and energy usage to clear the official Eco-Friendly Business GREENMark pathway for Irish small businesses.
  • Transitioning to Cleaner Transport: As we look to the future, we are actively exploring pathways to transition our delivery operations, with the ambition of targeting a 100% electric vehicle fleet by 2030.
  • Continuous Improvement: We review our data regularly to expand our seasonal Irish flower sourcing, reduce transport emissions across all of our deliveries, and explore other operational adjustments to further reduce our carbon footprint.

Our Eco-Friendly Promise Explained

When we use this term on our branding, it refers strictly to our verifiable independent shop actions:

  1. Plastic-Free Presentation: We have completely removed single-use cellophane and plastics from our decorative flower wrapping. (Traditional bubble wrap is restricted strictly to protective transit cushioning for our glassware).
  2. Prioritising Irish Growers: We actively choose to source our fresh stems from local Irish flower farms whenever they are seasonally available.
  3. Circular Glass Return Scheme: We encourage the reuse of quality materials by offering a small reward when you bring back your clean glassware.
  4. Low-Emission Deliveries: We actively minimize our transport footprint by utilizing an e-cargo bike and electric vehicle whenever possible.
  5. Restricted Foam Mechanics: We are foam-free by default, restricting the use of traditional floral foam exclusively to specialised structural tributes.
